Our District Team…
Gary Peppiatt – District Commissioner
Gary started as a Beaver Scout Leader in 1997 until he became Group Scout Leader and Local Training Manager. With the new formation off Bromley District he took on the role of Deputy District Commissioner in 2011 then becoming District Commissioner in 2014.
Being part of a District like Bromley is a challenge but it’s the best challenge he has taken on since he came into Scouting.
Alys Helm – Deputy District Commissioner (Group Support)
Alys has been in Scouting 20 years, ABSL, BSL, Leader in Charge and GSL of 3rd West Wickham. Also served on appointments committee for several years and a Training Advisor.
Born in Cudham Youth Hostel quite a long time ago and have now returned to live in the village, likes gardening, walking, reading and cooking.
A little known fact – Alys flew with Dr Who (Peter Davidson) and the Tardis to Lanzarote – but did go in a plane from Gatwick. She is also a Pilates instructor and Health Coach.
Tom Norris – Deputy District Commissioner ( Events)
I first started in Scouting at the age of 11 at the 5th Bromley and have never looked back (or managed to escape!). After moving from Scouts to Explorers to Network I have also held a number of adult roles including: Network Chairman, Scout Leader and District Executive Committee member. Soon I will be adding to Cub Scout Leader to that list too!
I have the pleasure with having a fantastic group of volunteers working with me on the Youth Events Team; without them none of my crazy ideas would come to light.
Outside of Scouting I have a love for Land Rovers and a slightly larger love for my wonderful girlfriend Naomi (whom I met through Scouting!) without her letting me out to play the great Scouting game I’m not sure I would know what to do with myself!
Lee Hawley – District Explorer Scout Commissioner
I started out as a Cub in the 80’s at the 21st Royal Eltham in the uniform of the time of a lovely round cap, shorts (even in Winter!) and green elastic garters! Moving in to Scouts I was well and truly bitten by the Scouting bug but having dreamt of being a pilot I went off and joined the Air Cadets.
My next foray in to Scouting was eleven years ago when I joined the 15th Bromley where following a few drinks at the AGM I got ‘roped in’ to help out. Firstly as an ASL, then SL, I then set up the Explorer Unit two years ago. I still run the Explorer Unit, sit on the groups Executive Committee and hold roles as County Training Advisor as well as supporting the Events Team.
As District Explorer Scout Commissioner my vision is to raise the profile of the section, grow it over time and ultimately provide the Young People with the opportunity to continue enjoying Scouting as Leaders of the future.
