24th World Scout Jamboree – Participant Selection

The 24th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) will take place between 22nd July and 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA in 2019.
The WSJ is an huge Scouting event that happens every four years, where over 35,000 Scouts from across the world come together to camp for approx.10 days. A WSJ involves lots of activities and meeting fellow Scouts from around the world. The organisers; America, Mexico and Canada, want it to be the biggest and best WSJ to date – it is sure to be epic!
The WSJ is known worldwide in Scouting, and is seen as a great honour to be able to attend. The theme is, Unlock a New World, which invites you to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships.

Participants must be born between 22 July 2001 and 21 July 2005. There will be absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

Participant Selection Process
Timetable: • An Information evening will be held in both Bexley and Bromley in September/October 2017 to provide information and to answer questions for Scouts & their parents; • Scouts interested in being considered for youth participant places should complete the application form below; • Completed applications signed by Troop/Unit leaders and parents should be returned to the GLSE World Scout Jamboree e-mail address at wsj2019@glsescouts.org.uk by 12.00 midnight on 27 October 2017. Anyone needing to submit applications by post, seeking an extension to the submission deadline or with other queries should contact David Goodwin, Assistant County Commissioner International international@glsescouts.org.uk for advice; • GLSE will run a selection event to which all eligible applicants will be invited;
The selection process is as follows: • The GLSE International team and Unit Leaders will assess the written applications to ensure they meet the minimum requirements, inviting those that do to a residential selection event that will be run by the County International Team and Unit Leaders; • The County Selection team will provide details of the event to all nominated Scouts by Week commencing 30 October 2017. There will be a nominal charge of £10 pp for the camp; • The residential selection process will be held at Wayland Scout Campsite, Old Harrow Lane, Buckhurst Rd., TN16 2HR over the weekend of 25 & 26 November 2017; • During the residential you will be required to attend a short interview with members of the International and Unit Leadership team. • Young people will be notified of the outcome of the selection process by 2 December 2017; • Unit training in preparation for the event will commence early in 2018.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
