New Bromley District Commissioner

Date: 12th Nov 2021 Author: Colin Goodwin

Happy Friday to you, I hope that, whatever you are doing, you are keeping safe & well.

After an extensive recruitment process I am very excited to announce that Sheila Howard has been selected to be the next District Commissioner for Bromley Scouts.

Gary won’t be disappearing just yet, as you can imagine handing over such a huge District may take some time & Gary will be working closely with Sheila over the coming weeks

So, here is a little bit about Sheila for you:

“I started my Scouting career 5 years ago whilst looking for a Beaver place for my son. Unable to secure one, I decided to open my own Group in 2017 and became an assistant Beaver Leader and Group Scout Leader for 1st Beckenham South.

A year later I opened the Cub section and last year the Scout section. During those five years I also became a Trustee for Bromley District Executive Committee, the District Assistant Commissioner for Penge and Beckenham Group and an active member of the District.

Although my Scouting history may be relatively short, my career in Girl Guiding is much longer, having held positions as Snowy Owl, Tawny Owl, Brown Owl twice and a Guide leader.

Outside of Scouting I  I work as a nurse consultant where, I manage a team of 12 staff across two hospitals and a local community in my role of Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control. I am a senior manager with leadership and management qualifications at Masters level.

I am looking forward to the challenge of being the new District Commissioner for Bromley Scouts and hope in time to meet you all”

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Gary for all of your support over the last 7 years, & don’t forget: I know where you are Gary!

Thank you also to everyone who applied for the role & a huge thanks to everyone who supported me by being a part of the selection panel – you know who you are

Welcome, Sheila & congratulations again!

With kind regards

Gwyn Muckelt

County Commissioner
