Microlighting

I’m sure will appeal to a lot of your youngsters, Kent Scouts can provide this to us and they fly from an airfield in Paddock Wood, for those interested please email leeprebble@aol.com for more information, I have been advised of a cost of £20 per flight and it tends to be at weekends, the season ends at the end of October.

Mudlarking

Creekside Discovery Centre in Deptford organise low tide walks throughout the year. Explore the Creek with experts and find out about the local and natural history of this amazing urban space. Low tide walks let you get on to the river bed safely with the help of a guide. Please allow about 2 hours for your event. Waders and mud sticks provided.

The event has been running for over 40 years after its first event in 1977 held at Walton Firs. In recent years the event has attracted in excess of 700 participants annually, comprising of Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders. Water Activities

Bewl Water – Water Sport Adventure Camps

These Taster Courses are proving very popular and offer excellent value for money. They give the opportunity to try Dinghy Sailing, Paddleboarding and Kayaking/Canoeing over a weekend camp. These courses are offered in addition to our normal formal training courses that follow the national governing body training schemes.

This is an ideal opportunity for Scouts and Guides to try a variety of water sports for the first time and for leaders to offer a water activity weekend camp for their Scouts and Guides, with little effort on their part. The Scout leaders don’t even need to attend (subject to age limitations), although they are very welcome, and anyway, why should the youngsters have all the fun?!

Danson Park

Danson Park Adventures offer sailing lessons. They have circa 11 boats so 20-22 is the maximum they can cater for in an evening.

Docklands Scout Project

Docklands Scout Project hold a number of Water Activity Open Days, some on Saturdays, others on Sundays. We open our gates to cub scouts, scouts, explorer scouts, network scouts, guides, rangers, cadets and leaders.  For a small fee (£25-00 per head – 2022) you can visit the Project, and try your hand at the many water activities that we have to offer (including Kayaking, Canoeing, Sailing and Rowing). You do not need to have any experience since instructors and staff are on hand to make sure that you have plenty of instruction, and we have adequate safety cover to ensure your safe participation.

The day starts at 1000 on the water, you need to arrive in time to get changed before this. We aim to finish at 1600  / 1630 and will stop for a 1 hour lunch break about 1230/1300hrs.

You will need to bring at least 2 changes of clothes and a packed lunch. There is a Nutty (Sweet shop) on site and hot and cold drinks are available.

Why not take the opportunity to bring some of your group down on one of the water activity days and give boating a try.  It may give you some new ideas for your regular training programme. Check this website for details of the next Open day, and make a booking in advance to ensure your chance take part.

This is the perfect opportunity for any youth group to bond together, using water and craft to help with the process. Many groups return year on year, commenting on its value and effectiveness.
