Our Campsite

Wilberforce is located in Downe Road, Keston, BR2 6AD at its junction with Westerham Road opposite Keston Church. Map grid reference 419 630 on Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 sheet 177.

Wilberforce is owned by Bromley Scouts and Scouts from Bromley District may use the outdoor camping facilities at reduced rates. Other people – including Scouts from other Districts, Guides, Schools etc. are welcome to use the facilities at charges designed to cover the outgoings.

Wilberforce comprises eight acres of open and wooded land and is suitable for camping and other indoor and outdoor activities – both residential and part or full day non-residential events.

Altar fires are available for outdoor cooking and there is a recently installed adventure course available for use under supervision of leaders. Grass sledges are also available during the summer months

A heated toilet block equipped with toilets, hand basins and showers in private cubicles is provided for campers.

Archery is available at Wilberforce for self led sessions. Leaders MUST be able to show that they have a ScoutAdventurous Activity permit for Archery, this can be done by printing their permit page from compass or the leader can show the warden the permit page on a mobile phone. The sessions are priced at £40 for an evening or £40 per day for an overnight camp. The sessions must be pre-booked when booking the camp site.

 

GREAT OAKS – Located on the Wilberforce Activity Centre is a permanent building designed to accommodate thirty overnight and more for daytime activities. There are four dormitories each with bunk beds accommodating 4, 6, 6 and 8 and two rooms each with 3 beds.

A well equipped kitchen is provided with large refrigerator, freezer, gas stove and catering equipment, cutlery and crockery for 30.

Great Oaks also has electric lighting and gas heating, mains drainage toilets and showers.

JIMS CABIN – Also located on the Wilberforce camp site, Jims Cabin is available as a base for activities  with an adjoining cooking shelter. Can be used as obligatory alternative emergency accommodation for Cub Pack holidays. Jims Cabin is ideal for Explorer Scout or Ranger Guide activities.

 

Do you want to help?

Wilberforce and Great Oaks are cared for by the “Tuesday Club” a team of volunteers generally between 9.00am and 1.00pm on Tuesdays. Offers of help are always welcome.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
